What Our Guests Say...

Dear Team
just wanted to write and thank you for providing such a super retreat for our leadership team last week. A beautiful setting, lovely manor house, super food, lots of tea n coffee n biscuits – delightful bedroom (no1) & a warm welcome. Thankyou for making it such a good visit – having stayed at dozens of retreat places, this was special. I am sure we will return –

the room was quaint, in keeping with the property, with every facility for comfort, immaculately clean and cosily warm. The continental breakfast on a self serve basis was excellent with foods sourced from the property gardens and provision for gluten free residents The buildings and grounds of the hotel were stunning and together with the friendly sheep quietly grazing in the adjoining paddock , gave a calm tranquil atmosphere -a reconnection with nature . The guest information brochure gave instruction for the excellent wi-fi connection, places of interest, walks , local pubs restaurants and takeaways (the village pub provided an excellent meal for a hungry traveller) All the staff I came into contact with were efficient friendly and helpful.

Good breakfast, plenty of choice, decent coffee too. Room facilities excellent I love a desk and chair to work at. The location is superb, sitting outside reading and drinking tea under the sun and trees, excellent area to walk around. Pub in village has decent beer and changing menu of local decent food, walking distance from the manor. Can buy local honey and quaker items too

Just wanted to say I had a lovely three day visit. It was just what I needed with the beautiful restful garden. The beautiful church next door which feels very special and the walks. Thank you I am sure I will visit again. Just thinking about my next bit of inner work I need to do!

Also good luck to you at Charney Manor and the Chequers Pub as we begin to open up. Thanks

To the ‘Team’ at Charney Manor

Thank you so much for making our small group so very welcome recently when we held our Homertonian reunion. No member of your staff could t have done more to ensure the success of our couple of days together, from the first welcoming smile at reception right through to our departure and the cheery farewell.

Our rooms were spotlessly clean and our house manager extremely attentive to our needs. All staff went out of their way to address any extra requirements requested and all services came with a smile.

Paul’s suppers were of excellent quality, absolutely delicious and most professionally served at our table. Any dietary requirements were met. We were also grateful for Paul’s skills as a furniture removal man – and we hadn’t even asked for his help!

The setting of the Manor is delightful and most tranquil and the grounds, particularly in the autumn sunshine with which we were blessed, are lovely. There are so many birds and quite a lot of wild life which all contribute to the peacefulness of the atmosphere which we hope we did not destroy too much with our fairly vocal student reminiscences.

Thank you for looking after us so well.

We wish you all well.

“The building and the grounds it is located in are amazing, such history and beauty. Given the price and age of the hotel, the rooms were very comfortable and adequately furnished. There are no TV’s in the room, this didn’t really bother us, we watched TV on a laptop. But there is a very large TV in a common room that you can use. The breakfast (continental) was just right for us.”

“Charney Manor is in lovely countryside, and is a lovely stone building. The staff are organised, collecting keys and signing in is a doddle. The room was clean tidy, desk chair, comfy chair TV lovely view from the window, and breakfast was good continental. There’s a good pub in the village for evening meals and I liked the beer there too.”

Just to say many thanks to you and all the Charney Manor staff for an excellent weekend. We even had superb weather! The accommodation was very comfortable, and the food was excellent.
Thanks again and I look forward to being in touch again as we plan for the conference in February 2019!

There were lots of good and appreciative comments about the food and on the chef.
Several people raved about the roast beef. For myself, not a great meat eater, I loved the quiche and interesting salads, and the sweet potato fries, the chicken and mushroom pie was lovely too, with ‘real’ shortcrust pastry!
Although I rarely eat puddings at home, I thought the profiteroles were really excellent, with the dark chocolate sauce.. some of the best I have ever had – lovely and light too.

We had a marvellous family weekend celebrating my husband’s 80th at this charming, historic venue & everyone wants to do it again in 2020 as it fitted us so perfectly.
This is a venue that works well for a large family (we are 31) of varying ages (7 months to 80) who can book the whole site. Having sole use ensured our groups’ needs were specifically catered for, the children had freedom to explore all the nooks & crannies, & everyone could use all the communal spaces. The snow provided extra play value in the lovely grounds & our intrepid keep fitters were not deterred having their morning run in particularly beautiful countryside.
The staff were all very helpful, answering numerous questions about facilities in the months before we arrived and providing travel cots (x 2) & a high chair for the babies.
Kitchen staff were friendly, efficient & left us to our own devices unless we needed them – perfect. The chef helpfully adapted the Friday evening meal to cater for working parents arriving after 7.30pm, with delicious vegetable soup, crusty bread, cheese & crackers proving popular with all the latecomers. They happily stored our celebratory cake & provided fresh fruit salad in scooped out watermelons on the side which looked & tasted great.
The breakfast buffet suited us well with poached or boiled eggs to order, fruit, cereals, yoghurts, crumpets, toast, muffins, jams, cold cheese & meats and a range of juices & hot drinks.
The food was a really good standard (fluffy quiche, loads of fresh veg, an excellent tasty Sunday roast with all the trimmings & delicious puddings) & the vegetarians were well catered for too.
It was very useful to be able to take our own soft drinks & some wine/beer for Saturday evening – a guest fridge in the dining room (the Undercroft) kept it cool.
A nice touch was the chef himself seeking me out a couple of times over the weekend to check we had everything & were happy with the food – very pro-active.
Rooms (mostly twin & single) are basic facility-wise but clean and (all but one in the Manor House) ensuite. Each room has a kettle, tea, coffee & milk sachets, a little bottle of shower gel & towels. They all vary in size & shape but we liked the quirky nature of the place & appreciated the many small improvements made recently (shower stalls replaced, rumbling pipework sorted, ivy cleared from windows, mattresses upgraded & room décor considerably improved.)
We enjoyed having several differently sized meeting spaces at our disposal & used the Barn Meeting Room for yoga, the beautiful oak-beamed Solar for singing & the lounge for chatting over afternoon coffee & home-made cakes.
The children also used the Library for doing homework & the 2nd floor TV space for computer games while the Guest Kitchen in the Barn was handy for microwaving baby food & (when the kitchen was locked in the evening) filling the drinking water bottles.
Charney is a great place for a group to spend a weekend – great value for money – we hardly went off site, appreciating its’ facilities, quiet beauty & special atmosphere – a marvellous canvas on which any group can productively paint to relish being together & have fun.
